A striking coastal new build set into the cliffside, designed to maximise shelter, sunlight, and uninterrupted connection to its surroundings. Barefoot Lodge combines bold architectural presence with refined detailing, creating a modern retreat that feels both grounded and elevated.
The Brief
To deliver a high-spec coastal lodge that balanced scale, durability, and design. The client wanted a standout home that embraced its unique position—protected from the elements while remaining open to light and views—without compromising on craftsmanship or finish.

A number of core decisions shaped the outcome of the project:
- Positioning the build at the base of the cliff for natural shelter without sacrificing sunlight
- Combining structural strength with clean, contemporary design
- Using high-quality materials throughout to ensure longevity in a coastal environment
- Integrating bespoke joinery and expert tiling as defining interior features
The Build
This was a substantial construction, involving the movement of over 2,000 tonnes of earth and the use of more than 10,000 concrete blocks, alongside extensive timber work. Every element was carefully considered and executed to achieve both structural integrity and architectural clarity. Close collaboration with the client throughout ensured the build stayed true to the intended style and vision.
